How to avoid buying a home with a bad layout design
You know that feeling when you enter a home and something just doesn’t feel quite right. It usually has to do with a poor home layout design. A poor layout design can cost a lot to fix, therefore identifying a layout mistake, can save you a lot of money. Here are a few areas to look out for;
- Long hall ways
Long hall ways are not inviting as they give you a feeling of being constrained.
- Adjoining bedrooms
Two bedrooms connected through one entrance, can prevent privacy and therefore is not ideal. This also means that the connecting room cannot be used as anything more than a bedroom or a kids room. For example if it was to be used as a dining room, you would have to go through a bedroom before you dined.
- Bedrooms that open to the dining room/ kitchen
A layout where you can see into a bedroom from the dining room/ kitchen leaves for little to no privacy.
- Bathrooms
Bathrooms that have a direct view from the kitchen or the living areas are a no no as it does not provide for privacy.
- No views from one room to another
A closed plan home in which all living areas have separate rooms will look smaller to an open plan home. An open plan home is preferred as it gives a feeling of space, even if the square footage is small. This is mainly suitable for the kitchen, dining and living areas of a home.
